INEC Crisis: 6 reasons why the Labour Party are demanding fresh election

The National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure has highlighted the reasons why the party is calling for the cancellation of the 2023 presidential elections.

Speaking at a joint press conference in Abuja alongside other parties opposed the results being declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Mr. Abure said that there were monumental disparities between actual results reported by agents and the electoral body.

The party through the National Chairman noted INEC’s failure to transmit the results through the BVAs and directly to their server.

He said that INEC disobeyed Section 60 subsection 5 of the Electoral Acts states that the presiding officer shall transfer the total number of accredited voters and the results of the ballot in a manner as prescribed by the commission.

He said that the “election is not free and far from being fair and transparent” while stressing that there was an extensive dance of results all over the country especially in the areas of strength of opposition parties to shore up the numbers of the ruling APC.”

He continued: “The cancellation la nationwide have rendered the entire exercise inconclusive. We have therefore arrived that the presidential elections of Saturday, February 25 conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) under the leadership of Mahmood Yakubu has been irretrievably compromised and we have totally lost faith in the entire process”

“We call for a fresh election to be carried out in accordance with the laid down INEC procedures for the conduct of the 2023 general elections”

Below are other reasons the Labour Party gave for its decision to demand fresh polls

1) Intimidation of voters.

2) Doctoring of results.

3) Monumental disparities between actual results reported by part agents and INEC.

4) The deliberate refusal of the INEC Chairman to respond to the demand of political parties for the commission to respect the pre-existing recommendations that result will be uploaded via the BVAs.

5) Refusal of INEC to comply with the laid down published and agreed process for the conduct of the elections.

6) Failure to transmit results to the INEC server.
