‘IGP’s tenure extension prerogative of President’

The Police on Monday said the three months extension of tenure of the Inspector General of Police (I-G), Mr Mohammed Adamu, is strictly the prerogative of the President.

Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Mr Frank Mba, in a statement on Monday in Abuja, said online reports (not The Nation) that the I-G paid over N2 billion to secure the tenure extension were false and defamatory.

Mba pledged the commitment of the Police under the leadership of the I-G to improve service delivery, safety and security of the citizenry.

He said the I-G had directed his team of lawyers to commence legal action against the publishers.

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, praised President Buhari for extending Adamu’s tenure.

He spoke during a meeting at the Government House in Lafia with stakeholders from Tunga and Ribi in Awe Local Government Area and the management of the Dangote Sugar Refinery.

Sule said at a time other heads of security agencies were leaving, President Buhari found Adamu worthy of a tenure extension.

He commended Adamu for being a good ambassador of the state and for his exemplary leadership of the police.

“I think this is a huge blessing that has come to us and we should be grateful for that and thank the almighty Allah,” he said.
