ICAN inaugurates Ayeni as 12th chairman

The Ikorodu District Society of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria has inaugurated Samuel Ayeni as its 12th chairman, urging members to uphold the institute’s high examination standards and professional ethics.

Speaking at the investiture ceremony recently, Chairman of the Planning Committee, Kareem Adegoke, described the event as more than a leadership transition, calling it a reaffirmation of ICAN’s commitment to professionalism, integrity, and service.

In his inaugural address, Ayeni pledged to maintain the integrity and uncompromised processes of ICAN’s examinations, which he said remain a benchmark for other institutions.

He also promised to increase the number of candidates at the Ikorodu centre while preserving the high standards for which the institute is known.

ICAN has been a beacon of excellence, a standard-bearer of ethics, and a bridge to global practices,” Ayeni said. “The baton of leadership handed to me is a challenge to move the district, and by extension the institute, to greater heights over the next 12 months.”

Ayeni outlined plans to work closely with learning centres to ensure student success, collaborate with stakeholders to promote proper record keeping, and strengthen ties with corporate organisations through visitations and strategic partnerships.

The ICAN President, in his remarks, highlighted the institute’s role in promoting financial transparency and accountability, citing the ICAN Accountability Index as a tool for assessing and monitoring public finance management in Nigeria.

Ayeni also emphasised the need for members to embrace technology, while Vice Chairman Adegoke added that training programmes on record keeping, social responsibility, and stakeholder engagement were underway.

The Deputy Vice Chairman, Ayinde Samuel, commended ICAN’s responsiveness to both local and global economic developments, noting the institute’s active role in ongoing tax reforms
