Former Nigerian Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (GCFR) in a recent interview on Arise TV highlighted the three key characteristics a Nigerian leader must possess to be successful in ruling the country in its present state of disunity.

The octogenarian who ruled the country between 1985 to 1993 after he ousted Military Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari in 1985 said he had started to "visualized a good Nigerian leader."

According to him, the perfect Nigerian leader must possess strong economic and communication skills to be successful.

"A person who travels in this country and has a friend visually everywhere he travels. He knows at least one person that he can communicate with. A person who is very vast in economics because of the development and good politician who should be able to talk to Nigerians and so on. I have seen one or two or three already on their 60s," Babangida said.

Known as the Babangida era, his rule was considered one of the most controversial in the military history of the country. It was characterized by a burgeoning political culture of corruption in Nigeria with his regime estimated at least 12 billion dollars (23.9 billion today)
