An old video of the former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike stating categorically that he wouldn't be a minister has emerged on social media.

Wike, a chieftain of the largest opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was included in the 28-man ministerial nominees announced by Senate President, Goodwill Akpabio in the plenary on Thursday, July 27.

According to the ministerial list read by the senate president, the nominees include former governors, economists, health experts, lawyers and allies of Mr Tinubu.

The submission of ministerial nominees is in line with the constitutional provision stipulating that the president has from the date he is sworn in, a 60-day window to appoint ministers.

While the dusk is yet to settle down on the announcement, Wike at one point said he wouldn't be interested in any ministerial post after his tenure as governor comes to an end.

His inclusion in the list has generated mixed reactions among Nigerians and political commentators on social media.

Wike said in the video that has gone viral: "Come home and campaign and work for the party. Stop this Abuja politics of carrying rumors to the candidate. Only one person can be a minister from a state. I will not be a minister. I will not!"
