What began as a viral allegation of rape shared on social media has now taken a dramatic turn, as a young Nigerian woman identified as Mirabel admits the story was fabricated.
The case, which initially sparked outrage and widespread calls for justice, has since unraveled following contradictions, public scrutiny, and her eventual confession during a recorded conversation with activist VeryDarkMan.
In an audio conversation shared by social media activist VeryDarkMan, Mirabel reportedly confessed that the viral story she shared about being assaulted on Sunday, 15th, 2025, was fabricated.
Her initial claim, in which she alleged she was attacked after struggling with insomnia, cut with a blade, and threatened by a supposed suspect from a wealthy family, had sparked widespread outrage online.
The controversy deepened after individuals described as her neighbours disputed her account, alleging she had previously misled them about her mother’s death to solicit financial assistance. An influencer known as Immunizer also highlighted perceived inconsistencies in Mirabel’s videos, intensifying public scrutiny.
The situation escalated further when some of Mirabel’s friends, during a TikTok live session, claimed she made up the story in hopes of receiving donations, not anticipating the level of attention it would attract.
During her exchange with VeryDarkMan, Mirabel admitted the allegation was untrue and expressed remorse. She also revealed she had been struggling emotionally and feeling suicidal, pleading for help and apologizing for the false claim.
The audio conversation has since circulated widely across social media, drawing mixed reactions and reigniting conversations about the impact of false allegations and the importance of mental health support.
