'I was in my hotel room praying' — Boniface reveals how Al Nassr transfer collapsed at the last minute

Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface has opened up about his failed move to the Saudi Pro League.

The 24-year-old Nigerian international had reportedly agreed personal terms with Saudi giants Al Nassr in January and was set to travel for the final stages of the deal.

Boniface was poised to earn around €45 million on a three-year contract, while lining up alongside Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

Despite reaching an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen over the transfer, Al Nassr made a surprise U-turn, opting instead to sign Aston Villa forward Jhon Durán in a dramatic twist.

Speaking on The Culture League podcast, Boniface shared the emotional rollercoaster that unfolded behind the scenes.

“I was ready to go. I packed my bags. I live in Cologne, we drove to Frankfurt,” he said.

“The money is a lot, to be honest. Most of my designer clothes and shoes—I had already given them out to my friends at home.

The flight was waiting. I was in my hotel room praying for the deal to happen, but it didn’t work out last minute.”
