The Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), has pleaded with the Federal High Court to send him to Kuje prison.

He said this in court on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 when he was arraigned for a bail hearing filed by his lawyers.

Kanu lamented the unavailability of a medical facility at the DSS to treat him. He claimed there is a conspiracy for him to die in the agency’s custody.

He said, “People will come to see me, they will not allow them. They don’t have a medical facility. I have congestive heart failure. They are patching me up.

“My foot is swollen. I asked them to conduct surgery, and they said they couldn’t. There is a conspiracy to die in detention. I want to be transferred to Kuje.”

During the court hearing, the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed the bail application.

In the ruling, Justice Binta Nyako, dismissed the bail application and held that the court cannot grant Kanu bail on the fresh application having rejected an earlier one.

Nnamdi Kanu is being tried on a seven-count bordering on treasonable felony and terrorism-related offences.
