Former Kaduna State Governor and former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has addressed the silence and detachment of former political allies, friends, and associates amid his current political circumstances, stating he harbors no bitterness toward those who have distanced themselves from him.

El-Rufai expressed these thoughts in a formal statement titled "My Relationships and the Aftermath," published on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday.

Reflecting on his career, the former governor noted that his past support for individuals and political causes was guided by his Islamic faith, Arewa heritage, and personal conscience, rather than an expectation of reciprocity or public praise.

"Over the years, I have stood by people and for causes I believed in, sometimes in difficult circumstances and at considerable personal cost. I did so not in expectation of praise, gratitude or reciprocity, but because I believed it was right," El-Rufai wrote.

Acknowledging the changing dynamics since leaving office, El-Rufai stated that those he previously assisted are entitled to navigate his current situation as they see fit, even if it involves public denial of their past association.

"Those I have supported are free to make their own choices now that circumstances are reversed. Some may speak; others may remain silent. Others may even deny our relationship or try rewriting history," he said. "Their reasons are their own, and I do not wish to judge them merely because their response differs from what others—or even I—might have expected."

While admitting that recent adversity has forced him to re-examine certain personal and political connections, El-Rufai emphasized that his reflection should not be mistaken for hostility.

"Adversity has a way of illuminating relationships... That is neither reproach nor condemnation; it is simply part of seeing people, and life, more clearly," he added.

Concluding his statement, the former governor declared that he would not seek retribution against anyone who had betrayed or injured him, opting instead to leave final judgment to God while focusing on maintaining peace with his conscience.

"As for any injustice, ingratitude or injury done to me, I seek neither revenge nor retribution. Ultimate accountability belongs to Almighty Allah, and I leave that judgment to Him, in this world and in the Hereafter," El-Rufai stated.
