I see myself as a redefinition of democracy - Governor Obaseki

Obaseki said that the fact that he returned as governor of Edo means that there is hope for all

Governor Godwin Obaseki has made a grand remark about what his re-election as the governor of Edo state means for Nigerian democracy.

During the swearing in ceremony held in Benin city, the state capital, on Thursday, November 12, Obaseki said he sees himself as the redefinition of democracy, The Cable reports.

Obaseki was said that he is no ignorantn of the fact that the his re-election palces on him a lot of responsibilities, noted that this stands for new hope.

The Edo governor added that his second term in office will bring to an end the politics of division and see to it that the resources of the state is evenly distributed to bring development and growth.

His words:

“My reelection represents a new hope. I see myself as a vessel in the redefinition of democracy in Nigeria and I am not unaware that this places enormous responsibilities on me.“It is pertinent to state that there are many sides to our victory which we are relishing today. Aside from the fact that it restores hope in democracy as a form of participatory government, our victory also offers an opportunity for us to bridge the gap between a challenged past and a promising future.”Earlier, the stage for fresh administration was set in Edo state as Obaseki and his deputy Philip Shaibu were inaugurated for the second term in office.

The event currently ongoing at the tennis court of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin city, Edo state capital, is graced by the creme de la creme from the Nigerian political fraternity.

Leading the list of top dignitaries at the event are Governors Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto, Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta, Diri Duoye of Bayelsa and top members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Prince Uche Secondus.
