Outgoing British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, has expressed her gratitude to the people of Nigeria as she concludes her time in the country as the UK envoy.

According to her, Nigeria is fun but is sad to be leaving the country.

She noted how she enjoyed her time in Nigeria, the music, dance, culture among others.

President Muhammadu Buhari's media aide, Garba Shehu said in a statement, that the British envoy made this known on Wednesday, April 5, during a farewell visit to Mr Buhari at the State House, Abuja, after spending four-and-a-half years in the country.

“I’m sad to be leaving. Nigeria is so much fun, I had a fabulous time here, and I’ll be back. I love the dance, the music, the culture. It’s been good to experience Nigeria,” said Ms Laing. “I’ve been to over 20 states, and I’ve told my successor to also do the same. I’ll be back and still travel wider.”

In the statement, Ms Laing applauded President Buhari for completing eight successful years in office, adding that he had done well to keep the country together.

President Buhari on his part, acknowledged the UK as Nigerian's second home and hoped that the relations between the two countries would grow stronger.

“In fact, some wealthy Nigerians don’t feel complete till they’ve had a home in the UK,” Mr Buhari said.
