I’m not working against APC – Betara

Aliyu Betara Aliyu Betara

One of the leading contenders for the House of Representatives Speaker, Aliyu Betara, has described as false a report that he was working against the interest of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in pursuing his ambition.

Betara, who represents Biu/Kwayar Kusar/Bayo/ Shani Federal Constituency in Borno State, was reacting to the allegation he was working at variance with APC on the choice of the leadership of the Lower Chamber.

But the federal lawmaker, in a statement by the Director General of his campaign, Dickson Tarkighir, described the claim as a monumental falsehood and figment of the imagination of its author.

Betara said that he was not desperate to become Speaker but driven by the need to offer support for President-Elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the onerous task of building a more united, prosperous and better Nigeria.

The statement reads: ”Honourable Muktar Betara Campaign Committee wishes to refute in very strong terms ill-motivated, sponsored, bile intentioned and untruth allusion that the Speakership aspiration is been driven by a group of people.

“This ill-motivated and sponsored article which made it into the front pages of some national newspapers is shocking and disturbing, and obviously has one objective, which is to pitch this collective aspiration, the person of Honourable Betara and his teeming supporters against our political party, our leaders, our constituents and our broad-based spectrum of well-wishers among the entire returning and newly elected Members and indeed those outside.”
