A former spokesperson of the PDP Presidential campaign council, Kassim Afegbua is hoping the party's presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and his vice Ifeanyi Okowa lose the 2023 general election over what he believes was a biased process against Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

Afegbua who is clearly displeased by the decision of the party to pick Okowa ahead of Wike also accused the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu of conniving with Atiku to pick a candidate.

He made this known when he appeared as a guest on Channels TV Sunrise Daily on Friday, June 17. According to him, some top party executives are not happy that the party chairman jettisoned the recommendations from the committee set-up to choose a running mate.

"A lot of leaders are unhappy. The party is boiling. I am not personally against Okowa as an individual, he has the credibility and stature but I can tell you that I am happy because he is being picked because it is a weaker route."

"I will prefer an Atiku’s Abubakar to lose this 2023 presidential election. I am praying fervently for that."

Atiku Abubakar while confirming Okowa as a running mate said his rich experience and political trajectory positioned him well to become president after his (Atiku’s) tenure.

Atiku stated this in his remarks at the unveiling of Okowa as his running mate at the PDP National Headquarters, Wadata Plaza, Wuse Abuja, on Thursday.
