Popular Nigerian music video director Clarence Peters has revealed that he forgave his father, veteran musician Shina Peters, even before having a conversation with him after realising that he had made every single mistake his father made.
Speaking in a recent episode of the Afropolitan podcast, Peters disclosed that he truly became an adult after the realisation and forgiving his dad in 2014/2015.
The 41-year-old explained that the reason his own mistakes weren’t as catastrophic as his father’s was because of time and technology.
He said, “I made every single mistake my father made. I’m just lucky that time and tech saved me from it being as catastrophic as his own. So, the moment I realised that I forgave him instantly even before we had a conversation. That would be 2014/15. That was when I became an adult. That was when I began my journey into adulthood. I’m still on the journey. You’re always on the journey.”
Clarence Peters is the son of legendary musician Shina Peters and veteran Nollywood actress Clarion Chukwura.
Peters once opened up in an interview that his mother wanted to abort him while he was in her womb but changed her mind because of her belief that he was the reincarnation of her father, whom she lost when she was 11 years old.
In a chat with Chude in February 2025, Peters stated he would have loved to “judge my dad for how he treated my mother but I’m not in a position to.”
He also said he tried not to be like his father with women “but I’m not perfect.”
