The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, has declared himself the foremost king in Yorubaland, saying historical records support his claim.
He made the declaration during an appearance yesterday on the State Affairs Podcast, where he was asked about his standing among Yorubaland’s traditional rulers.
Speaking during the interview, Oba Owoade said, “I am the supreme king in Yoruba land and the number one king in Yoruba land.”
He further stated, “Well historically I am, Alaafin is number one.”
When asked directly whether he considered himself the number one king in Yorubaland, the monarch maintained his position, responding:
“Historically just I have said to you, I am very confident about that, I am the number one.”
