Reno Omokri has said he and Senator Ben Bruce were the ones who made former vice president Atiku Abubakar take ex-governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, as his running mate in 2019.
Speaking during an interview with the Honest Bunch Podcast, Omokri said Obi as an option was also boosted by ex-president Goodluck Jonathan vouching for him.
He said, "I and Senator Ben Bruce were responsible for Waziri Atiku picking Peter Obi as his running mate in 2019. We packaged Peter Obi like he was the next best thing after sliced bread."
Omokri added that it was through him that the former Anambra Governor met a former British Prime Minister who served between 2019 and 2022, Boris Johnson.
"It was not Obi who went to Boris Johnson. He can't deny it because I am a meticulous record keeper. If he wants to deny it, I will get the number of the British House of Lords member, Lord Daniel Hannan, to confirm.
"He was the one who arranged it. He is my friend. I said we want to see Boris Johnson and we are going to bring him along and that was how it happened. We were packaging this man," Omokri added.
While expressing his perception of Obi, Omokri noted that he does not have an affinity for him, but did all he did because former president Goodluck Jonathan, whom he was loyal to, instructed him to.
"I don't particularly like Peter Obi. The reason I was doing that was because I was instructed by former President Jonathan that he was the one he wanted.
"Dont forget this is a man who wrote in his book that I am the most loyal person that was in his government," Omokri added.
