Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate in 2023, has expressed his willingness to consider a merger with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to advance change and prosperity in Nigeria.
He shared these thoughts while acknowledging the support of Atiku Abubakar, PDP's presidential candidate, who has indicated his willingness to back Obi if the party's nomination is allocated to the South East and Obi is selected as the candidate.
“I commend him and I’m grateful for his statements, especially where he said he will support me if it (the presidential ticket) goes to the South East.
“If the merger is to be able to govern Nigeria properly, unlock all those things that will make Nigeria a better place, I’m for it.”
In a conversation with NoireTV-GlobalBlackTv, the former Governor of Anambra State clarified his ambitions, emphasizing his commitment to the nation's transformation over personal political aspirations.
"My goal is not the presidency itself, but rather the betterment of Nigeria, especially for the underprivileged. Our country holds immense promise," Obi remarked.
He reflected on his tenure as governor, highlighting significant improvements in Anambra's education sector. "When I took office, the educational system was struggling. By the time I left, Anambra had risen to the top in educational standards," he said.
Obi outlined his vision for nationwide development, including upgrading schools, hospitals, and infrastructure, should he become president.
Additionally, Peter Obi has been recognized as 'The Most Impactful Politician of the Fourth Republic' from 1999-2023 by the Champion Newspaper, a testament to his influence on Nigerian politics.
