First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has said that she's not intimidated by the misinformed reports about her statement on empowering women to set up Akara and corn-roasting businesses.
Her statement had sparked controversy on social media, with many mistaking her words to mean that she wants graduates to engage in such small-scale enterprises.
In a new video on social media, Tinubu revealed that the empowerment scheme is for petty traders, noting that N200 million has already been disbursed to empower 2,000 petty traders.
She said, "I know they've been talking about me saying Akara. It is not only Akara, but we also have tomato sellers, and also boli, including those selling pepper and vegetables in the market. We will continue to empower them, add to their resources so that their trade can really be sustainable. That is what we are doing, and I know all those who are affected really appreciate it.
"We are not intimidated by all those wrong reports. We are forging ahead to make sure that our people are well-cared for."
