The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate for Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has said his love for Nigeria led him to reject citizenship in some foreign countries.

In an interview with Channels TV, Rhodes-Vivour, who lost the 2023 election to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, revealed that he had the opportunity to naturalise while studying abroad.

He added that his love for Nigeria is the reason why he's back in the country to fight for its progress.

He said, "I finished high school in Paris; after that, I went to England, and then America before coming to Nigeria. At any point in time, I could have become a citizen of any of these countries. I should have had a plan B for my life aside from Nigeria, but I love Nigeria too much to have a plan B. I don’t want to give myself any other option apart from Nigeria, which is why we are here and fighting for a better Nigeria."

Criticising the Sanwo-Olu administration, Rhodes-Vivour said Lagos stinks because of poor waste management.

"We have a complete failure of waste management in Lagos State. Lagos State is the supposed centre of excellence, but right now, it is the centre of waste. All over the streets, on all the road medians, across Lagos- this is not even in a select part of Lagos; the city is stinky," he said.

He said that under his administration, the state will experience better urban planning, affordable housing, and heavy investment in primary healthcare, education, and other sectors.
