Senator Abdul Ningi from Bauchi, who was suspended by the Senate leadership on March 2, 2024, for alleging that N3.7 trillion had been padded into the 2024 budget, has been recalled by the Red Chamber and has returned to the upper chamber.

The Bauchi central senator resumed his legislative duties in the Senate on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, after serving his three-month suspension following his concerns that sparked massive reactions.

Speaking at the plenary, the lawmaker noted that he had moved on and urged the Senate leadership to "let bygones be bygones."

He said, "I have been a member of this National Assembly for almost two decades, and I look forward to making it my home."

He expressed his appreciation to his fellow Senators and the Senate President. "To me," he said, "it is time to move on. I am back in the Senate chamber."

The Nigerian Senate made headlines after Senator Ningi granted an interview with BBC Hausa, where he accused President Bola Tinubu of implementing a 2024 budget different from what was debated and passed by the National Assembly.

This led to a three-month suspension after it was concluded that Senator Ningi could not provide evidence to support his allegation.
