I left Obi because he doesn’t have plan for Nigeria — Datti

Datti Baba-Ahmed has explained his position ahead of the 2027 elections, saying he would not disadvantage President Bola Tinubu by unnecessarily promoting former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi.

Speaking on the political situation, Datti said, “I will not disadvantage him to unnecessarily promote Baba Atiku and Peter Obi and others. Because we have to be fair in life. And that’s what I stand for.”

He also addressed his relationship with Obi, dismissing claims that the former Labour Party presidential candidate dropped him.

According to Datti, “Peter Obi did not drop me, I left him because he doesn’t have a plan for Nigeria.”

He explained that on January 1, 2024, he told Obi that he needed to have a clear plan for Nigeria, adding that he had not heard such a plan from him.

Datti, however, maintained that he still supports Obi despite the disagreements between them.

Peter Obi knows I stood for him. I still stand by him. And it is regretful those moves he made. But it is his choice,” he said.

He further explained that his decision not to promote the Atiku or Obi ticket was about fairness, stressing that he did not want to unduly disadvantage Tinubu, whom he described as a key opponent, while promoting another candidate.

“I don’t want to unduly disadvantage a key opponent,” Datti added.
