Senator representing Abuja under the ticket of the Labour Party, Ireti Kingibe, has refute claims of receiving any "enjoyment allowance" as announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Her comment comes following the backlash from some Nigerians who questioned why the Labour Party Senators are silent with regards to cash being shared at the National Assembly.

Recall that Nigerians went berserk after a video showed Godswill Akpabio, announcing to the lawmakers during plenary on Wednesday, that the national assembly clerk has sent token to their accounts to enable them enjoy their holiday as they embark on a two-month recess.

Shortly after making the statement, Akpabio withdrew the announcement and said that prayers will be sent to their mails instead.

His statement reads: "In order to enable all of us to enjoy our holidays, a token has been sent to our various accounts by the Clerk of the National Assembly.”

Reacting to the concerns raised, Kingibe, the only lawmaker from the FCT in the Senate, spoke to Channels Television on Wednesday evening and said she has not received any allowance as earlier stated.

“No, actually, I didn’t receive any prayers, but I’ll check my email for the prayers,” Kinigbe said.

According to the Labour Party lawmaker, most people assumed the lawmakers had been paid for the allowances but explained that the payment could be “statutory things that we would have been paid anyway”.
