'I gave my first ₦100 million cheque to my wife' — RMD

Veteran Nigerian actor and writer Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has offered a glimpse into how he handles his finances at home.

Speaking in an interview alongside younger actor Timini, the award-winning screen legend shared that the first time he received a ₦100 million cheque from acting, he handed it straight to his wife without conditions.

"The first time I had the biggest cheque I've ever had in my life — I had like a ₦100 million cheque. When it was presented to me, my staff had gone, my manager had gone to pick up the cheque, and I said give it to my wife," he recalled.

RMD said his wife was initially surprised by the handover, asking whether the money was meant for their children.

"She said, 'You want me to keep it for your children?' I said no, keep it for yourself. She said, 'What do you want me to do with it?' I said whatever you want to do with it.

The trick is this, I know that probably ninety percent of that will end up on my children anyway," he narrated.

RMD said he shared the story specifically to impart a lesson to younger actors about the relationship between wealth, generosity and trust.
