'I feel they are disrespecting you' - Rufai quizzes Finidi George on controversial NFF contract

Renowned TV broadcaster Rufai Oseni has expressed his disappointment with the contract offered to Finidi George by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) following his appointment as the new head coach of the Super Eagles.

Speaking on the details of Finidi George's contract in an exclusive interview on Arise TV's morning show, Rufai noted that a two-year deal based on performance is a disrespect to the former Real Betis striker considering his legacy in Nigerian football.

“I feel hurt and taken aback. Even a foreigner, [Jose Peseiro], who came here had a defined contract, and they are telling you that your contract is based on performance. What is that?” Rufai said.

“This is the great Finito, as far as I am concerned. People who watched football in this country in the 1990s, the golden age of Nigerian football, know people like Finidi. So, what is all of this?”

After serving as assistant to Portuguese gaffer Jose Peseiro for 20 months, Finidi George was appointed as the new head coach of the 2023 AFCON finalists on April 29, 2024, having previously served as interim coach before his substantive appointment.

His first task will be to lead the team for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic next month.
