Rufai Oseni, an on-air-personality has paid tribute to Omoyele Sowore for his role in fighting for democracy in Nigeria when he was a member of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) at the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

As Nigeria marks Democracy Day on Wednesday, June 12, Rufai applauded Nigerian students for fighting for democracy while he singled out Sowore who he claims didn't complete his university education due to activism.

"Let us give tribute to Nigerian students, today I would like to dove my heart for Sowore. Sowore led the university student charge, we can not forget the role of people like Sowore. He forfeited his education and couldn't finish school because of that," he said of Sowore on Arise TV.

Sowore, a presidential candidate on the ticket of the African Action Congress (AAC) has had several runnings with the law since the President Muhammadu Buhari era and the current administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Sowore studied Geography and Planning at the University of Lagos, from 1989 to 1995, with his academic program extended by two extra years, after being expelled twice for political reasons and student activism.

Sowore is a politician, human rights activist, citizen reporter, writer, lecturer and pro-democracy campaigner, known for founding the online news agency Sahara Reporters.
