I didn’t know anything about education sector yet Buhari appointed me - Minister reveals

The minister of education, Adamu Adamu has revealed that he knew nothing about the job President Muhammadu Buhari appointed him to do in 2015.

Adamu who is the longest-serving minister of the Buhari’s government said this during the valedictory ceremony with official and parastatals heads of the ministry on Thursday, May 25.

According to the outgoing minister, he was made to be strategic when giving out appointments to some professors of education and other support staff of the Federal Ministry of Education. He noted that this helped him to have a good start.

His statement reads in part:

“I didn’t know anything about education sector when I was appointed Minister except superficially. But when Buhari decided to make me Minister of education, I called some people to assist me work on policy document on education because I was novice in the sector."

While appreciating President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing him, he said he was "not ready and unprepared for such task", adding that his appointment came as a surprise to him.

It is known that Buhari's administration and Adamu's ministry had the longest strike action in the history of the nation.
