Fast-rising Nigerian artiste Fola has shared details about his early days of financial hardship before finding success in the music industry.
The singer, born Afolarin Odunlami, revealed that his initial journey into the music space was hit by extreme poverty and a total lack of basic technological tools necessary to produce or promote his work.
Speaking in a recent podcast interview, the artiste recalled how owning a laptop or phone felt like an unattainable luxury during his early hustle.
The singer explained that looking at people who possessed laptops back then made them look like they were living in a completely different world because of his poor economic situation.
"I didn't even have a phone. I used to see people opening their laptops and I would be like 'wow'. There was no way to do music," Fola stated.
Fola, who relocated to Lagos in 2018 to pursue a professional career, previously opened up about sleeping in a police station on his first day in the city.
His breakthrough came through a series of persistent releases, eventually gaining massive audience attention with his hit single "Alone" featuring BNXN, followed by his debut project releases.
Reflecting on his journey, the musician noted that his financial transition is a testament to how relentless work in the Nigerian music ecosystem can change a person's life.
According to him, he is now capable of buying as many laptops as he wants due to his newfound success.
"Now I can just vex and buy a thousand laptops," he stated.
