Valentine’s Day is celebrated annually across the world on February 14. On this day gifts, chocolate bars, candies and flowers are shared between loved ones to celebrate their love and affection for one another.

Mynigeria TV took to the streets of Accra to speak to some Nigerians living in Ghana about their experiences with love.

Although some were indifferent, with very little belief in love, they are optimistic that they will find love someday.

A Nigerian man shared his interpretation of Valentine’s Day, stating that he celebrates Val’s Day with his wife and children. For him, the love shown by his family has made him an ardent believer in it, to the extent that he can die for love.

“I've believed in love right from my childhood…I can die for love but I can’t kill for love. Love is something that when you feel, it is relaxing. Valentine’s Day is a special day to me. Valentine is not about sex. Its about going out to make merry, and enjoy with your friends.”

A phone repairer said that he also believes in love despite the many challenges he has faced in the past. He explained that “as for love, anyone I love, I love them forever and I care for them so nothing bad will happen to them. Most especially my wife, my brother. The meaning of love is like whatever happens once, I’ve chosen that this is the person I love, whatever happens I have to stay. I can die for love. A lot of things happened to me because of love but I stand that nothing will change my words. Because the day I met my wife, I told her that anything I say is yes. I don’t turn back.”

Another Nigerian restaurant owner explained he lost his belief in love as a result of experiences from his past marriage.

“I don’t believe in love. Love is so strange and sometimes it can fail you. For me I’ve experienced a lot so I don’t think I will believe in love for now. I was once a married man and through that I got to experience about love and I found out that its not something that can move me so I decided to quit the relationship.”

A market trader also shared her experience with love. According to her, she celebrates it with her husband and children. They get some good gifts and enjoy at home also.

“I celebrate it with my husband and kids. I wear red and white, take them to Shoprite and buy things for them. When I am home with the love of my life, I wear red underwear and we play love,” she said.
