I am the most investigated opposition leader in Nigeria - Peter Obi claims

Peter Obi Peter Obi

Peter Obi, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), says he has been the most investigated opposition figure by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) since he declared his intention to run for the presidency.

Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, built an organic following ahead of the 2023 presidential election, catapulting the Labour Party to third place behind the APC and PDP, despite having only a few months to prepare for the polls.

The momentum he gained before the election is expected to be crucial to his prospects in the 2027 polls, should he secure the ADC presidential ticket.

Speaking in a recent interview, he said the current APC-led government has deliberately shut down his income-generating avenues, while stressing that he remains under investigation by the same government.

He said: “Well, I won’t rate my chances, but I can tell you that what is happening to me in Nigeria today cannot be fully described. I am probably the most investigated, with all avenues through which one can make a living deliberately blocked, ensuring that you are left with nothing.

“I can show you today that, as far as I am concerned, I ran for the office of President of Nigeria and won, but the system decided otherwise—and they know it. What we are trying to do with the ADC is to bring together competence, capacity, and compassionate people who are interested in turning Nigeria around. These are people from diverse backgrounds.”
