I am not contesting for any position in 2027- El-Rufai

As the 2027 elections approach, Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has expressed his disinterest in seeking political office. Instead, he emphasized his commitment to collaborating with others to oust those he considers oppressors of Nigerians from both the state and national government levels.

This declaration was made in Kaduna on August 27, during a meeting with a group of PDP youths who recently defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by Aliyu Bello.

El-Rufai also took a subtle jab at the current administration, asserting that Nigerians need no further evidence to recognize its failures.

“This is a government that does nothing but lie every day. Everyone’s conscience tells them the truth. I am not contesting for anything; I don’t want to go to the Senate. I am not contesting for any position. That is why I am calling on you: let us join hands and ensure we remove the oppressors,” El-Rufai stated.

He stated that his original intention after leaving office was to distance himself from partisan politics. However, recent events, he mentioned, forced him to re-engage, not driven by personal ambition but to offer support.

“When I finished my tenure as governor of Kaduna, my intention was to rest. But given the way things have turned out, I believe we must play our part to bring about better leadership. That is why we are back in politics,” he explained.
