I am here to unite Nigerians - Newly sworn-in ANC President, Asaolu says

The newly elected President of the All Nigeria Community (ANC) Ghana chapter, Albert Asaolu says he will not relent in his quest to change the negative perception of Nigerians living in Ghana.

Asaolu, who took the office as the substantive leader of the community on Monday, April 8 disclosed that “he is aware of the enormous task” Nigerians face in Ghana. The Nigerian community is the largest community in the West African country.

He served as the acting president for two years before he was sworn in early this week.

Speaking at the ceremony held at the premises of the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana, he said the “journey he experienced before arriving wasn't easy” adding he was inspired on this journey because he wanted to “serve humanity”.

Excerpts from his statement reads “The journey and the hurdles experienced before arriving here today has not been easy. At times, I will ask myself why I am disturbing myself but something keeps telling me that serving humanity is a great task because the office I am aspiring for does not attract any salary.”

“We are aware of the enormous task faced by Nigerians citizens here. Some are self imposed trouble, others are rather caused by hatred or misrepresentation. Regardless of which, we shall dedicate ourselves to effective change to the best of our abilities,” he continued.

Asaolu disclosed he will liaise with the relevant authorities in Ghana to address some of the issues that are affecting Nigerians in Ghana while indicating his outfit also seeks to enhance business growth between Ghana and Nigeria by organising business related events.

With all this in the offing, the ANC President said his first line of action will be to unite Nigerians and the various communities.

"My first line of action is to unite my people. Without unity, no nation can progress, and I acknowledge the lack of cohesion that has hindered us. By the Grace of God, I am committed to addressing this and believe we will achieve unity," he said.

On his part, the outgoing Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, Aliyu Usman Bakori congratulated Mr Asaolu for winning the elections and urged him to govern with tolerance to foster a prosperous and enduring community.

“Leadership requires tolerance, sacrifice, and maturity. Find ways of harmonising the purpose of understanding,” he said.

The inaugurated executives are 1st National Vice President, Hon. Beauty Amaebinye Annan; 2nd National Vice President, Hon Ali Mohammaed; 3rd National Vice President, Hon Mazi Emeka Alozie; National General Secretary, Hon. High Chief Akintola Bolanle; National Ass General Secretary, Hon Ahmad Sharriff; National Treasurer, Hon HSM Dr. Saheed Smith Onile-Ere; National Financial Secretary, Hon Muhammad Abdullahi; National Asst Financial Secretary, Hon Emeka Oscar and National Welfare, Hon High Chief David Ukueku.

The others are National Asst Welfare, Hon Yusuf Anas Ambi; National Public Relation Officer, Hon Prince Wisdom Opurum; National Ass Public Relation Officer, Hon. Rodney Eghosa Enobakhare; National Organising Secretary, Hon Bruno Eberechi Arukaalam; National Asst Organising Secretary, Hon Madam Janet Avan and National Provot, Hon Rev Olabisi James.
