The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu announced Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the 2023 presidential elections.

Tinubu's victory has, however, been met with pessimism as Nigerians in and in the diaspora have questioned the polls after INEC's failure to follow its laid-down procedure.

Mr Tinubu defeated 17 other candidates who took part in the election. He scored a total of 8,794,726 votes, the highest of all the candidates, thus meeting the first constitutional requirement to be declared the winner.

He also scored over 25 per cent of the votes cast in 30 states, more than the 24 states constitutionally required.

INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, who announced the final results in the early hours of Wednesday in Abuja, said Atiku Abubakar of the PDP came second in the election.

Atiku polled a total of 6,984,520 votes in the election.

Peter Obi of the Labour Party came third in the election with a total of 6,101,533 votes while Rabiu Kwankwaso of the NNPP came fourth with 1,496,687 votes.

Since his victory was announced and the certificate of return issued to him, world leaders including French President, Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Ghana's Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo and the United States have sent in their congratulatory messages.

The election was also reported widely as most cable networks reported incidents that transpired at the elections.

In Austria, however, a newspaper report on the elections has gone viral.

The platform which can't be identified at the time of filing this report is alleged to have said: "Bola Tinubu, an oil billionaire, and drug dealer elected as Nigeria’s President" as the headline of its report.
