Nigerian music duo Bracket has revealed how P-Square’s performance fees rose dramatically from ₦500,000 to as much as $100,000 per show as Peter and Paul Okoye became major stars.

Speaking on a podcast in Nigeria, Bracket recalled a period when P-Square were already among the most sought-after acts but were still charging about ₦500,000 for performances.

"Most times they are the biggest act that people want to see. They were so hot, but they were still paying them ₦500,000 per show," they recalled.

According to the duo, the turning point came when Jude Okoye, who was managing P-Square at the time, was contacted to help secure a performance involving 2Face Idibia.

Bracket said the organisers were reportedly offering 2Face about ₦2 million, prompting Jude to insist that P-Square would not perform for less than ₦1 million.

“They were there for two months until one person paid that,” Bracket recalled.

The duo said P-Square's decision to hold firm on their fee subsequently changed the economics of their bookings.

“Immediately, they moved to ₦2 million. Before you know it, they were the first musicians who started collecting ₦7.5 million per show then, before it now moved to ₦10 million upwards,” they said.

Bracket further claimed that P-Square eventually commanded fees of about $100,000 for shows in other African countries.

The duo praised the Okoye twins for their impact on their own career, saying P-Square inspired them and helped them in various ways.

“I love those boys. You know, they inspired me and Smash. They helped us in their own way,” Bracket said.

P-Square, comprising Peter and Paul Okoye, became one of Nigeria's biggest music acts during the 2000s and early 2010s, with Jude Okoye playing a major role in managing their business interests. Contemporary reports describe the twins as among the country's most sought-after performers during their peak.

The revelation comes amid renewed public attention on P-Square and their former manager Jude Okoye, following Peter's allegations concerning the group's finances and royalties.

Jude has denied wrongdoing and is currently facing an EFCC case over alleged financial offences, to which he has pleaded not guilty.
