The activist was reportedly shot by a police operative at the Unity Fountain in Abuja on Monday, May 31, 2021.

According to the reports at the time of the shooting, he was shot by a female police officer. He was immediately rushed to the hospital to seek medical attention, Naija News said.

The news of his shooting captured the headlines after it was revealed by Lawyer Inibehe Effiong on Twitter.

He wrote: “@YeleSowore has just been shot by a female police officer at the Unity Fountain in Abuja.”

“The criminal officer is said to be an ACP. I watched Sowore being shot live on Facebook.”
