Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has attributed Bayer Leverkusen's Bundesliga triumph to the brilliance of manager Xabi Alonso.

The Spanish manager guided Die Werkself to their maiden Bundesliga title since the inception of the club in 1904 following their 5-0 drubbing of Werder Bremen at Bay Arena on Sunday, April 14.

Bayer Leverkusen's triumph ended Bayern Munich's 11-year dominance in the German topflight.

Xabi Alonso's side is on course for a historic treble as they in the DFB Pokal final and are leading West Ham 2-0 on aggregate in the quarterfinal of the UEFA Europa League.

Leverkusen is also unbeaten across all competitions this season.

Speaking on their recent success, Boniface credited the brilliance of the former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder and the team's depth in squad for their remarkable performance all season.

“The coach reads the games very well,” Victor Boniface explained.

“Just look at the match against West Ham (UEFA Europa League quarter-final first leg): both scorers are players who came on.

“Xabi Alonso knows what the team needs during the match to perform well.

“We have a group of 20-25 players, not 11, and everyone gives 100% whenever they get their chance.”

Despite spending two months on sidelines, Boniface remains Bayer Leverkusen's top scorer this season with 18 goals in 27 appearances across all competitions.
