'Homosexuality is not a crime' - Pope Francis

Pope Francis Pope Francis

The bishop of Rome and head of the Catholic church Pope Francis has declared that being a homosexual is a sin but never a crime.

Pope Francis in an exclusive interview with CBS evening news on Tuesday, January 25, criticized laws that punish homosexuality as “unjust.”

He said God loves and accepts all of his children just as they are and urged Catholic bishops who support such laws to include LGBTQ individuals in the church.

He acknowledged that Catholic bishops in some parts of the world support laws that discriminate against the LGBTQ community.

Pope Francis linked such attitudes to cultural backgrounds, and said that in order to recognize the dignity of everyone, bishops in particular need to go through a process of conversion.
