Highlights of Tinubu's directive for improved security

HIGHLIGHT OF THE LATEST DIRECTIVES BY PRESIDENT BOLA TINUBU TOWARDS IMPROVING THE SECURITY APPARATUS OF THE COUNTRY

1. Nationwide Security Emergency: President Tinubu formally declared a nationwide security emergency.

2. More Boots on the Ground: This declaration authorizes the deployment of "more boots on the ground," especially in security-challenged areas.

3. Army and Police Recruitment: The police and the army are authorized to recruit more personnel.

4. Police Recruitment Target: The Police will recruit an additional 20,000 officers, bringing the total planned intake to 50,000.

5. NYSC Camps for Training: Police authorities are authorized to use various National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camps as training depots.

6. VIP Guard Duty Withdrawal & Retraining: Officers being withdrawn from VIP guard duties are to undergo crash training before deployment to security-challenged areas.

7. DSS Forest Guards Deployment: The DSS is directed to immediately deploy all already trained forest guards to flush out terrorists and bandits in the forests.
8. DSS Recruitment: The DSS is also directed to recruit more men to man the forests.

9. Support for State Security Outfits: The administration will support state governments that have set up security outfits.

10. Call for State Police Review: The President called on the National Assembly to begin reviewing laws to allow states that require state police to establish them.

11. Livestock/Herders-Farmers Resolution: He called on all herder associations to take advantage of the newly created Livestock Ministry, end open grazing, and surrender illegal weapons, emphasizing that ranching is the path forward.

12. Boarding Schools: States are advised to rethink establishing boarding schools in remote areas without adequate security.

13. Religious Centres: Mosques and churches are urged to constantly seek police and other security protection when they gather for prayers in vulnerable areas.
