The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has imposed a strict ban on drone operations, fireworks, and panic-inducing devices ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s one-day working visit to the state on Friday.
Announcing the security directives during a press briefing in Uyo, Commissioner of Police Baba Azare stated that the measures form part of a comprehensive security architecture designed to guarantee a hitch-free visit and ensure public safety.
The police command alerted residents to major traffic diversions, advising commuters to avoid specific high-traffic corridors designated for the presidential convoy.
Restricted Routes: Key thoroughfares—including Airport Road, Iron Road, and the Ring Road III extension leading to the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium—will experience significant traffic limitations throughout the day.
Call for Political Restraint: CP Azare appealed to opposition political parties in the state to suspend all planned outdoor gatherings on Friday to prevent overlapping political events from escalating public tensions.
Project Commissioning and APC Rally
During the working visit, President Tinubu is scheduled to commission several key infrastructure projects executed by Governor Umo Eno’s administration.
These include the new international terminal building and Aviation Village at Victor Attah International Airport, the Ring Road III extension, and the Arise Resort Park in Uyo.
The President will also attend a major political rally organized by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Uyo, seen as an early mobilization drive ahead of the 2027 general elections.
