Here are the salaries of Ooni, Alaafin, Alake, other traditional rulers

The salaries of some traditional rulers in Nigeria during colonial rule have emerged.

A photo of the document dated January 1938 from the office of the Federal Ministry of Information, national archives was shared on X (formerly Twitter) on April 4, 2024, by media personality Bolanle Oni.

In the document, the following are the amounts received by the Yoruba traditional rulers respectively.

Alaafin of Oyo - €4,200
Alake of Egbaland got €2,250
Awujale of Ijebu garnered €1,700
Oba of Benin got €1,650
Ooni of Ife always received €1,400
Other second-class traditional rulers include;
Olubadan of Ibadan €2,400
Owa of Ilesha €1,450
Oshernowe of Ondo €350
Oragun of Ila €200
