Herdsmen begin registration, others leaving Ondo forest reserves

Some Fulani herdsmen illegally occupying the forest reserve in Ondo State have obeyed the vacation order given to them by Governor Akeredolu.

This follows a meeting of members of the Governors' Forum and the leadership of Miyetti Allah.

Consequently, they have started registering as per the directive of the Ondo state government.

The government said this will be used in ejecting unregistered herders from the state’s forest reserves, according to Legit.ng.

This was disclosed by the special adviser to the state governor on security, Alhaji Jimoh Dojumo, Punch reports.

Meanwhile, herdsmen are reported to have started leaving the state’s forest reserves following the government’s order.

Recall that the order was backed by the governors’ forum and the Miyetti Allah at their meeting on Monday, January 25.

The state government is said to still expecting more herders to register.
