Queen Blessing Ebigieson, President Association of Movie Producers (AMP), said the late actor Pope Obumneme Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope, rejected wearing a lifejacket before his demise a few hours later.

Pope died after a boat conveying him and other actors capsized while crossing the River Niger for a movie shoot. His sudden death cast a dark cloud across the industry since it emerged.

Ebigieson in an interview on Arise TV on Friday, April 19 revealed the late actor refused a jacket given to him by the production manager moments before they crossed the river.

"The first person I called when the accident happened was the President of Actors Guild of Nigeria and he told me exactly what was going on. The thing I asked was, the name of the producer, I need to know the name to find out if she is my member."

When I called, she told me she wasn't there when it happened. She said by the time she got back, the incident had already happened. She said there was someone in charge of the production who was the production manager.

"The production manager told her they gave Junior Pope a lifejacket but he said it was dirty. My thought was, if it was dirty, as a big celebrity, what you are supposed to do is tell them to go and wash it a get a new one.
