He's different to Nunez - England hero urges Liverpool to sign Super Eagles star who he says is 'phenomenal'

The Nigeria international is not among the stars lighting up the World Cup but continues to attract the attention of Europe’s biggest clubs

Former England international Emile Heskey has charged Liverpool to make a move for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

The failure of the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup means Osimhen is not in Qatar showing off his quality at football’s biggest festival.

But the Nigeria international remains one of the most sought-after forwards following his exploits for Napoli.

Osimhen is the Italian Serie A’s top goalscorer this season, with nine goals in 11 games. The 23-year-old also has a goal in the Champions League as Napoli finished ahead of Liverpool in the group stages.

Some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea, and Real Madrid, are constantly being credited with an interest in the exciting striker.

Liverpool, though, seemed content with the acquisition of Uruguayan star Darwin Nunez following the departure of Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich.

But Anfield great Emile Heskey believes the Reds should be among the clubs jostling to sign Osimhen.

In a chat with the Safe betting site (as per Anfield Watch), Heskey reveals why he is a big fan of the Super Eagles star.

“He would certainly give them something different to what they have now,” Heskey noted. “He’s different to Nunez who can play out wide; Osimhen would be that central goal threat.

“He’s quick, has an eye for goal, and can finish really well with both feet. He’s a top player. I think Napoli paid quite a lot for him, so that’s why he’s commanding a £100m transfer fee.

“I saw him score against Leicester last season in the Europa League and he’s a top striker and would certainly enhance Liverpool’s options in attack without a doubt.

“He’s a phenomenal player, and I think his pace means he would be very much suited to the Premier League.”

Osimhen recently won Global Soccer’s “Emerging Young Player of the Year” award in Doha.
