Gunmen kill police officer in Calabar

Gunmen have killed a police officer in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

The slain officer, identified as sergeant Peter Ikwen, was shot dead at Edgerton Street, Calabar on Saturday, October 29, 2022.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Irene Ugbo, who confirmed the incident, said the assailants took the officer’s rifle after killing him.

“I have just gathered that a police sergeant was shot dead by unknown gunmen in the early hours of Saturday and his rifle was taken away by the assailants,” she said.

The PPRO who condemned the killing of the officer, said that investigation has begun with a view to unravelling those behind the act.
