Gunmen kill police officer and soldier in Delta, cart away their guns

The spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, has confirmed the death of a soldier in the Oton Area of Sapele.

"Yes! It’s true. His rifle was carted away," she said when contacted by Daily Post.

According to her, the unknown assailants carted away with the rifle owned by the victim.

She said the surprise occurred as the gunmen came to the military post through the community river using a speed boat.

She said no arrests have been made but that investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to Linda Ikeji.

Security agents have been drafted to the area to beef up security and ease tension.

Daily Post correspondent who monitored the incident reports that some indigenes and residents are already fleeing their homes for fear that the military might deploy soldiers to the community for a reprisal attack.
