Two persons were killed by some unknown gunmen at the Etekwuru autonomous community in the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State around 4 am on Wednesday, December 8 (today).

According to Punch, the attackers destroyed properties leaving some villagers injured before leaving the area.

The reason for the attack is unknown with reports suggesting the community is in a state of panic.

The incident was confirmed by the traditional ruler of the community, Eze Kenneth Okereke who has called on security agents to avail themselves.

This is not the first time the Etekwuru autonomous community is experiencing such attacks, in October 21, some gunmen attacked and burnt properties including the official vehicle of the traditional community - all in an attempt to kill him.

The attack on the palace of the traditional ruler comes two days after hoodlums and military men clashed in the community. This led to the death of two soldiers and youths.

The monarch who wrote a letter to the state governor, Hope Uzodinma, requesting help, disclosed that he was in exile owing to the destruction of his palace.
