Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has warned against Nigeria plunging into an ethnic war, following the arrest of some suspected bandits by Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Igboho.
Igboho's Iru Ekun security network recently stormed the forest of the Old Oyo National Park in search of over 50 schoolchildren and their teachers abducted by bandits of Fulani extraction.
A video from his team showed the moment some suspects were arrested in the forest with charms.
However, Gumi expressed the belief that it was simply ethnic profiling, warning that such could lead to ethnic wars in Nigeria.
He wrote on Facebook, "Good intelligent people everywhere. Nigeria should not plunge into dirty ethnic wars. On the other hand, these victims are mostly Hausa for those who think there is difference once you're regional."
