Govt should pay private school teachers till school resumes, HotelsNG boss says

Mark Essien Mark Essien

The CEO of HotelsNG, Mark Essien, has spoken up for private school teachers whose jobs have been affected as COVID-19 forced schools nationwide into lockdown.

Recall that the Federal Government has closed all schools since March to prevent the spread of the respiratory illness that has affected over 15,000 people in the country.

Speaking on his official Twitter account, @markessien, on Saturday, the businessman fells that private school teacher deserved payment from the FG until school reopen.

"One of the most essential of all people in Nigeria - the private school classroom teacher - has been completely abandoned by the Govt. Private schools are shut down. No money to pay teachers - and they are suffering. Education is important, but teachers are not?

"The shut down of schools was mandated by govt. In one blow, Govt cancelled the income of private schools (but did not touch their own incomes). The teacher earning N30k/month has to be the one to heroically sacrifice for the rest of the country? But no Govt official will?

"The correct thing to have done would be to register all such teachers and pay them salaries till schools reopen. Or stop paying Govt workers - let everyone feel the bite together - so better decisions can be made."
