Following the leaked Lagos State Government memo on the secret mass burial of 103 victims of the October 2020 #EndSARS massacre, there have been massive reactions from Nigerians.

On Monday, July 24, a leaked memo addressed to the Lagos State Ministry of Health indicating that the state government approved N61,285,000 for the mass burial of 103 persons identified as 2020 EndSARS victims surfaced in the press.

The memo which was dated July 19, 2023, revealed steps for the processing of funds after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made the approval.

The Lagos State Ministry of Health having confirmed the letter in a statement, however, said that the bodies were not from the Lekki toll gate but were picked by the Lagos State Environmental Health Unit (SEHMU) from areas such as Fagba, Ketu, Ikorodu, Orile, Ajegunle, Abule-Egba, Ikeja, Ojota, Ekoro, Ogba, Isolo and Ajah.

Recall that Nigerians gathered at the Lekki Toll Gate to protest against police brutality which was rampant across the country.

During one of the protests in Lagos state, soldiers stormed the venue in an attempt to disperse the crowd, allegedly shot at unarmed residents which led to the death of several Nigerians and many others sustaining injuries.

Several government officials on multiple occasions refused claims of any loss of lives at the EndSARS protest which took place at the Lekki Toll Gate.

However, the recently leaked memo has raised concerns among Nigerians with many taking to social media to call out the government over their lies.

Many wondered why the state government are conducting a secret mass burial for victims from the ENDSARS protest despite several denial of any massacre.

Below are some reactions.

@AAtobs: The question we are not asking is what proportion of the dead is the 103 unidentified corpse. How many were dead during #EndSARS protest and how many were identified out of those? Lagos state government is hiding something

@LegacyNgLimited: Just listened to this and I cried. Most of these victims are poor, majority of who's families are in the villages where poverty is rife. How do you expect them to have access to Newspapers?
Nigerian govt is criminal enterprise & Nigeria is a Crime Scene!!Pathetic

@Tony4israel: Sanwo said there was no death at all

@nwabuezechinye2: You know when I came across that memo on mass burial, one part on my mind was telling me it could just be politics and distractions etc but here they are defending it wow God!

@NwosisiNgo76422: They never wanted the bodies to be picked up because the dead will tell their stories. You can remove the bullets from the wounds but can you remove the wounds from the bodies?

@RexAgu1: But I thought they said no body died in the shoot out? How did they come about 100 plus persons? I am not understanding

@miss_clowey: Useless people, sebi sanwo olu and the zoo Media claimed nobody died.

@biafraRightwing: Killing of those 103 innocent young citizens of Nigerians during EndSARS protest shows that youths have no good future to belong in Nigerian.
