The Lagos State Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment on Wednesday said it distributed 12,000 COVID-19 relief packages to tradesmen and artisans in the state.

According to a statement, the items were given out through the Lagos State Council for Tradesman and Artisans for re-distribution to registered members.

While addressing representatives of the beneficiaries during the distribution of the relief packages at the Lagos State Technical College, Agidingbi, Ikeja, the Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mrs Yetunde Arobieke, said the gesture was a reflection of the goodwill of the present administration towards the informal sector.

Arobieke, according to the statement, noted that the food items would ameliorate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the group.

“I can assure you that very soon, artisans will be able to benefit from the unconditional cash transfers being provided by the Federal Government, in collaboration with the state government, to vulnerable Lagosians,” she added.

The commissioner said some of the initiatives adopted by the government to bring succor to the sector included granting of subvention to artisans, upskilling and training artisans to improve their business, enhancing their skills and providing access to loan facilities.
