The  Lagos State Government has arrested 12 persons for illegal trading and loitering on pedestrian bridges in Oshodi and Ladipo areas of the state.

The Corps Marshal, Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps, Gbemisola Akinpelu, said this in a statement on Thursday.

Akinpelu was quoted to have said this at the command headquarter of the agency in Bolade-Oshodi after she led a team on an operation.

She said, “The government constructed the pedestrian bridges strategically across major highways in the state to assist residents in safe crossing along highways in order to reduce accidents as well as enhance the free flow of traffic on Lagos roads.

“The 12 offenders arrested at the Oshodi and Ladipo areas for illegal trading and loitering are partners in progress when it comes to desecrating pedestrian bridges meant for citizens’ use. These hoodlums loitering around take advantage of the slow movement caused by illegal traders to rob innocent citizens of their valuables.

“The Corps Marshal added that the agency would continue to rid the state of illegal trading on pedestrian bridges.“

“Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is committed towards attaining a cleaner and greener environment in consonance the mandate of LAGESC to rid the state of environmental infractions, and the agency will not rest on its oars to achieve its statutory mandate to rid the state of illegal trading on and around pedestrian bridges,” she said.
